Frequently asked questions

How many of my school's teams can win a cash prize?

Cash prizes ($1,000, $750, or $500) are limited to one per school each year. If more than one team at your school takes part — for example, a Pre-K–2 class and a 3rd–5th class both submitting — only your school's highest-ranked team is eligible for a cash prize. Other qualifying teams from the same school will receive a certificate of recognition and stay eligible for a Judges' Favorite award. If a second team from the same school would have placed in a cash tier, that spot passes to the next-highest-ranked school instead.

What is the Early Bird award?

The Early Bird award is a separate $250 prize, based on which school has earned the most points by January 1, 2027 — not on final season rankings. It isn't limited to one team per school, so it's awarded independently of the other prizes.

What are the Judges' Favorite awards?

Two Judges' Favorite awards ($250 each) go to the teams KACEE judges pick as their favorites, based on creativity rather than point totals. Any team can win a Judges' Favorite award — including a second team from a school that already has a cash-prize winner.
